@Charles - That sounds pretty similar to what I'm thinking. I'm not a huge fan of PHP but I might have to check it out for ideas.

@Jeremy - Will do.

Remind me to show you our CMS at the next Ruby user group. The idea of Content vs. Presentation is very much how I store our data. And like you alluded to, I'm fairly certain that you are right about Behavior. Content is to Model, like Behavior is to Controller, like Presentation is to View.

What I’m thinking about would be at the software level and could be done by anyone with front end web development skills (xhtml, css and javascript).

Sounds a little like Expression Engine and use of custom fields.

I create a section of the site - or data container - and define the fields that belong in it and whether they are text, drop downs, relationships, etc.. all through the admin side of things.

I also create the template and place the custom fields in the template where I would like.

The client sees the form with the custom fields and fills them in as they go.

The only drawback to this is lack of flexibility if there is something that doesn't fit the mold for that section - it can be a bit of a head scratcher.

This flexibility is one of the reasons I lean towards EE for a lot of projects.
